Bare was founded in 1997 as Bare Essentials Theatre in Denver, Colorado. They began with a mission to focus on “piece discovery through artistic, spontaneous, uncontrived, real, and interesting means.” With this focus, the group did a variety of productions and festival performances, which allowed them to present both comedic and dramatic shows.

In 1999, most of the company moved to Chicago and began to concentrate on shows with only 2 and 3 actors. As a result, Bare Essentials was reorganized as a two man ensemble. Now, Shaun Himmerick and Fuzzy Gerdes are Bare.

As Bare, Shaun and Fuzzy have performed at the Minneapolis Improv Festival, the Chicago Improv Festival, the Toyota Comedy Festival, the YESand.com New York Improv Festival, the Columbia [SC] Improv Festival, and at the Toronto Main Event.

Shaun and Fuzzy are constantly experimenting with the dynamics of two person improvisational theatre. They have performed and workshopped forms as diverse as a two man short form show to a single thirty-minute scene.
