Oops

I set up a nice procmail filter this morning to handle the MyDoom mails that were filling my mailbox. Only I messed up on a return or two. The point? If you sent me email today, I didn't get it. Oops. Try again, please.

Mustapha (and Latté) on the go

Mustapha on the go

Mustapha on the go

So... right now our apartment doesn't have any heat (nor running water). As it's 23° in Chicago, the place is pretty cold. I'm alright (I feel like some sort of odd high-tech refugee -- huddled under a blanket in the living room, wirelessly browsing high-speed internet and watching something on TiVo) but the cats (and Shaun) were having a fairly rough time of it, so I've sent the cats (and Shaun) to Beth's for safe-keeping.

If you've met Latté, you know that she hates to be picked up. So she got to make the ride in the cat-carrier. But Mustapha got to make the ride up front.

Happy Year of the Monkey

Chinese New Year

Chinese New Year was actually the 22nd, but the celebration on Argyle Street was this Saturday. There were lion dances and a dragon and tons of firecrackers and a bunch of Amy's friends and me drinking hot cocoa and a snow storm. Kate and I took pictures with the little camera and she's put them up on her website.

Bail Out!

When I run into theater people around, they often start out the conversation with "Hey, too bad about WNEP."

"Too bad, but too good," I retort, nonsensically. I loved the old WNEP space (soon to be the home of The Playground) but it only held 60 people. Now we're doing the Around Midnite Series at the spacious Lakeshore Theater, so you and 299 of your friends can come see the shows and there will still be a few seats left.

And speaking of those shows, Cinema 2.0 is coming up tomorrow night at midnight.

I watched Bail Out the other night to do the scene breakdown for the Cinema 2.0 cast. Count yourself lucky that we're going to turn the original soundtrack off and make up new dialogue. It's a stinker.

Huh, David Hasselhoff's first movie role was a character named "Boner" in "Revenge of the Cheerleaders." It only got better from there.

Dancing With Gaia is (almost) released

Let's see, I auditioned for this movie in February 2002. And Matt told me it was "done" in March 2003. Well, today I received an email that DVDs of Dancing With Gaia will ship on February 13, 2004. Yay!

I have an incredibly minor part in this movie (though the trailer is full of me), and in the two years since I filmed my scenes for the film, I've been involved, on- and off-screen, with a ton of short films. But it'll still be great to see the results of my first screen acting.

Neutrino in Aspen

I'm very proud to relate that our friends Neutrino will be taking the Neutrino Video Projects to the HBO's US Comedy Arts Festival in Aspen this March.

Dynamite!

Dynamite!

Today I did the OctaSketch at Chicago Sketch Fest -- 4 groups of 5 actors and a director each put together a half-hour sketch show between 9 am and 8 pm, when the show went up. It was a blast.

My group was Thea Lux, Jeremy Sosenko, Aaron Walters, Adam Yencho and me. Our director was John Hildreth. We were... Dynamite! I took pictures!

Oh well...

"Show? What show?"

Hanging out

I went out to the Lincoln Tap Room with a bunch of people from the call-back tonight, notably Erica and Homer. "Notably" because we talked about the concept of "getting on someone's website" and Erica said, "oh, you'd link to my very out-of-date headshot on the ComedySportz site" and so I shall. And Homer is notable because he's Homer. And he once won $10,000. But don't bug him about it -- he was in college and he spent it all a long time ago.

Suddenly Busy

A few days ago I was asked if I had any shows coming up. "Nope, not really," I said. Little did I know. Here's what's suddenly been added to my plate:

Bare has a show at Frankie J's (4437 N Broadway) this Saturday night at 10:30 pm. Normally, Shaun and I try to be good about sticking around to see the other groups perform, but we were a last-minute addition to the schedule, so we both have to leave right after we perform to get to our other committment... The Sickest F***in' Stories I Ever Heard, at its new location, Lakeshore Theater.

Also, this week Chicago Sketch Fest starts and on Monday, January 12, at 8 pm I'm going to be a part of OctaSketch, a sketch version of the 24 Hour Plays. And then next Sunday, a show I'm directing (again), Fratricide, goes up at Sketch Fest.

And tonight I'm going to a callback for a show that should have me busy with rehearsals through March. If I get cast, of course. If I don't get cast, expect me to quietly never mention this exchange ever again. "Show? What show?"

Ruth Buzzy

My friends Ruth Buzzy are playing a show January 24 at the Beat Kitchen. The show is a party to announce their new distribution deal with Veronica Records, which is very exciting. Until now, if you wanted a copy of a Ruth Buzzy album, you had to come to a show. Now you can sit in the safety of your underground bunker, listen to a few mp3s, decide you love Ruth Buzzy, and order a CD. And then come to the show on the 24th. (It's good to get out of the bunker every now and then.)
