Episode 98 - Konyagi

Erica’s brother and sister-in-law live in Mwanza, Tanzania and sent over this unique Tanzanian liquor, Konyagi. Much of the information in English tells us what it is not, it’s not vodka or gin. The Konyagi company website tells us that “Konyagi is a 35% ABV. crystal clear spirit with a citrus taste and aroma. The flavour is distinctively Konyagi…”. So, you know, Konyagi tastes like Konyagi. I hope that clears it up. (Konyagi seems to be closest to a rum, at least in it’s base.) You also seem to be supposed to whack the bottle on the bottom for some reason:

Season 13 Teaser

Drunk Monkeys - Season 13 Teaser.

It’s been quite a while, but we’re back with a whole new season of Drunk Monkeys. Jen and Erica have lined up a bunch of weird liquors and will be trying them so you don’t have to. New Episodes will be coming out on Fridays over the next 7 weeks, leading up to episode 100!

Drunk Monkeys - Episode 93 - Cocktail Time - Polar Vortex.

A Negroni is a classic cocktail that consists of equal parts gin, vermouth, and Campari. Jen and Erica take three of the spirits they tasted this season—Bols Genever, Amaro Meletti, and Letherbee Malort (now Bësk)—to create a variation of the Negroni that they’re calling a Polar Vortex, in honor of Chicago’s extra cold winter this year.

This is the last show of the season. We’re going to take a short hiatus while Jen and Erica work on some other projects, but we’ll be back before you know it.

Episode 92 - Letherbee Malort/Bësk

Episode 92 - Letherbee Malort/Besk.

Jen and Erica are trying Letherbee Malort, a variation of the Chicago classic wormwood bitter liqueur. In the time since we filmed this episode, Letherbee has renamed it “Bësk”, evidently in response to a trademark claim by Jeppson’s Malort. Letherbee’s version was developed by The Violet Hour’s R. Franklin.
