Oops, it looks like I never reviewed Born to Run back when I finished the audiobook. Quel horror!
Born to Run is, of course, the book that really kicked off barefoot running as a more-mainstream phenomenon and made those weird toe shoes such a recognizable thing. The book, though, is less a polemic about running without (or with minimal) shoes as it is an adventure story of an obscure ultramarathon race in Mexico and portraits of the various runners who are invited to the event. It’s such a well-written book that by the end you’re wondering why you haven’t already ditched your shoes and gone out for an easy 50 mile run. (I mean, don’t, but you’ll wonder.)
