Del Close Movie?

The Chicago Reader has an article about Guru: My Days With Del Close that includes this tidbit:

Second City owner Andrew Alexander has optioned [the book] for a movie, for which Griggs has written the screenplay.

(The Reader doesn't put their content online, so no link to the article.)

DOT press release

It's video news day at the New Improv Page. Item 1:

Sneaky Kings sent along this press release.

Sneaky Kings Productions announces that they have signed a domestic video & DVD distribution deal for DOT with Vanguard. DOT hit the shelves 24 Dec 2002.

DOT, winner of Slamdunk's Best Comedy and The Independent Spirit Awards, is a groundbreaking mockumentary of nine months in the life of Zectek.com, an Internet startup company. A social satire and sly comedy of manners unfolds through "behind-the-scenes footage" and interviews with the companys founders and employees. As Zectek.com rides the e-commerce roller coaster, the twenty and thirty-somethings that run it have their lives turned repeatedly inside out.

The proud parents of company are visionary con man/philosopher Si (Simeon Schnapper), naive salesman Mitch (Michael Mazzarra) and cynical technical wizard Stan (Steve Walker). These slacker/nerds-turned-entrepreneurs are soon joined by employees as neurotic as they are: Smart and sensuous Jane (Jamie McMillan), earnest fruitcake Ross (Mathew O'Neil) and pragmatic pixie receptionist Maria (Katherine M. Ripley).

Witness: strategic meetings turned to fist fights!
See: advisory boards that include the Jolly Green Giant.
Experience: a cutting-edge comedy about period in our culture so far ahead of itself that it's present is pass.

DOT is the brainchild and debut feature production of Sneaky Kings, a Chicago-based production company made up of local theater and independent film alumni, guerilla filmmakers and e-business veterans. Sneaky Kings producers Simeon Schnapper and Brett Singer shot the feature locally and cut it in-house with Apples Final Cut Pro.

You can buy DOT from Amazon.

Four Dead Batteries

Up Past Midnight Productions sent me a note about their movie Four Dead Batteries, a feature film currently in production. The website is just a few production stills at the moment but they promise more in the future.

Their note inspired me to do some updates to the Videography page.

Suckerfish

If you're awake and in the US, you probably already know that the movie The Blair Witch Project a) grossed a gazillion dollars and b) was largely improvised.

An improvised movie that did not gross a gazillion dollars is Brien Burroughs' Suckerfish, which had its Chicago Premiere this month at the Chicago Underground Film Festival. It stars members of Bay Area Theatresports, True Fiction Magazine, and Scratch Theatre. It's very funny.
