1986 Cable Access Interview of Del Close

Brian Stack (most recently a writer for Conan) shot this interview with Del Close in 1986.

Jesse Thorn of The Sound of Young America says:

When [Brian Stack] was 19, he was an intern at a public access station, and he made this video report. The subject is Del Close, with whom Stack had just started his first class at the Improv Olympic. [...] The video is in black and white, because Brian accidentally set the camera to "monitor" mode, but it's a totally amazing time capsule and about 10 minutes of wisdom from the greatest guru of improvisation.

In included footage of performances caught glimpses of Dave Pasquesi and Mick Napier (with hair!).

Groups Update

Has it really been almost a year since I've updated this long-suffering site? Yes, it has. Thanks to everyone who keeps sending in their improv groups to be listed, despite the quiet here. And double thanks to people who let me know about defunct groups—the size of the list is well past the point where I can double-check each link every year or so (as I used to do in the early days) to see if groups are still active.

Here then are the groups I've just added to the United States, Canada, and World Improv Groups Pages:

The Calgary Improv Brier

The Calgary Improv Brier: “Improv, Hurry, Hard!” will be March 12 and 13, 2010 in The Epcor Centre. There's an open invitation to improv teams to compete for a cash prize and the winner gets a showcase appearance in the Calgary International Improv Festival, September 30-October 3, 2010. If you'd like to submit a team, please email crhilton@shaw.ca.
