I’ve torn through the first five books of the Amulet series by Kazu Kibuishi (thanks, Chicago Public Library) and now I see that the next volume isn’t going to be out until September. Dangit. The plot is a somewhat standard “young girl from our world inherits power in another and may be the last hope against a powerful enemy” and it’s published by Scholastic, which would tend to make me think “kids book”. But there’s a fair bit of complexity about the trustworthiness of the source of that power. And it doesn’t hurt that it’s gorgeous and action-packed.
