Armada was disappointing to me, especially considering how much I enjoyed Ready Player One. RPO had a reasonable explanation for why future kids might care about ’80s pop culture—Armada a little bit less so, and makes you wonder if Cline cares about anything other than ’80s pop culture. And where the plot of RPO was rather inventive, Armada feels like a warmed-over Last Starfighter.
