John Scalzi’s blurb for The Incrementalists is “Secret societies, immortality, murder mysteries and Las Vegas all in one book? Shut up and take my money.” And, you know, that little list sounds like it’d be right up my alley, especially since I’m a big fan of Steven Brust, who co-wrote the book. But I have to say I found the book just a little disappointing. I don’t know if it’s an artifact of being co-written, but there’s a certain stutter-step to the narrative that felt stilted.
